Dear Friends of Silicon Photovoltaics

Pierre-Jean Ribeyron, Chairman SiliconPV 2016

I have the great pleasure to invite you to the 6th SiliconPV conference on March 7-9 in Chambéry, France.

SiliconPV is now well-known as the only conference covering extensively crystalline silicon photovoltaics expertise, from Silicon material to modules. And what makes SiliconPV unique is that the conference addresses all items with a high scientific quality. Moreover, every year appear new amazing concepts who will prepare next generation solar cells. SiliconPV allows a close interaction of researchers, thanks to the combination of best orals, poster presentations and face-to-face discussions. The conference quality is a crucial point for the scientific committee who applies a blind review process and normalized ranking to select the best scientific papers in each relevant topics.

As in the last two years, the nPV workshop will take place successively to the SiliconPV conference with one overlapping day and a joined conference dinner on Wednesday. These two events are completely complementary and allow researchers and engineers to get a complete overview of all trends, innovations and developments of crystalline silicon technology, both at the R&D and industrial level.

As you may know, at the end of this year France will be hosting and presiding the 21st Session of the Conference to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C by reducing the dependence to fossils energies.  Doubtless Photovoltaics (PV) will be a key energy resource to reach this goal by providing clean and costless energy to the world. Nowadays, crystalline silicon dominates the PV market, and I am convinced that it has the potential to both reduce costs and improve conversion efficiency to meet the huge needs of mankind. Therefore, I have modestly the feeling that our conference will also help to promote the needed innovative technologies to reach these goals.

The 2016 edition is hosted by the French National Institute for Solar Energy and will be held in Chambéry (60,000 inhabitants) in the heart of the French Alps in the south-west of France, at only 3 hours from Paris by train. Chambéry is known as the city of the princes of Savoy. The Castle of the Dukes of Savoy is a major city landmark. Built in the 14th century, it was embellished over the centuries by the Savoy’s princes. Chambéry boasts a surprisingly rich heritage. Shaped by its natural environment and the twists and turns of history, it has many treasures to offer to visitors who are willing to venture off the beaten track. Picturesque quarters, monuments and gardens are all at your fingertips. Chambéry has three nature parks right on its doorstep, where you can get away from it all and marvel at the wonders of nature. In addition, as we are still in winter, we will propose a social event on Friday with a full day ski in ‘les 3 Vallees’ ski resort, the world’s largest ski area, with a chance to ski with me!

I am sure that you will enjoy your stay in Chambéry, and invite you again for taking part in the 6th SiliconPV conference.
